Assistant Professor in Accounting


The faculty member is expected to maintain the highest personal standards of character and conduct, to keep abreast of his or her academic discipline through continuing study, research, and/or participation in the activities of his / her professional organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate and/or graduate students
  2. Teaching a range of undergraduate and graduate courses including, but not limited to Intermediate and Advanced Accounting, Managerial and intermediate managerial Accounting, cost accounting, Taxation, financial reporting, and analysis.
  3. Ensuring students reach their full potential using innovative teaching methods.
  4. Supervision and counseling of students on theoretical and practical activities.
  5. Supervise students' laboratory work (if required).
  6. Evaluate and grade students' class work, laboratory performance, assignments, and papers.
  7. Compile, administer, and grade examinations.
  8. Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  9. Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  10. Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.           
  11. Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate teaching, internship, and research work.
  12. Keep abreast of developments in their field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
  13. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
  14. Select and obtain materials and supplies such as textbooks and laboratory equipment.
  15. To assist the chair and colleagues of the member's department in carrying out the program of the department.
  16. Conduct research in a field of knowledge, and publish findings in professional journals, books and/or electronic media.
  17. Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and educational issues.
  18. Write grant proposals to procure external research funding.
  19. Prepare and submit required reports related to instruction.
  20. Act as advisers to student organizations.
  21. Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
  22. Provide professional consulting services to government and/or industry.
  23. Any other duties assigned by the Dean and/or departmental Chair.



A holder of a Ph.D. degree Accounting or an equivalent degree in the relevant or related field from an accredited university. Candidate with a current ACCA license will be preferred.


  1. Two years of experience in teaching in a recognized University.
  2. Good level of published work of excellent national and/or regional quality.
  3. Experience of delivering high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  4. Experience of successful research collaboration
  5. Evidence of identifying and exploiting opportunities for income generation.
  6. An awareness of the current issues impacting on the HE sectors in Oman, the Gulf, the Arab World and internationally.
  7. Ability to work with and lead diverse groups, cultures, and communities.

Job Competencies

  1. Ability to teach & deliver courses in both Arabic and English.
  2. Ability to teach, manage and assess undergraduate and postgraduate courses in related field.
  3. Ability to develop course and program materials
  4. Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  5. Ability to provide tutorial and academic advice to undergraduate and postgraduate students
  6. Ability to develop and maintain a research program and to publish in international journals
  7. Ability to demonstrate leadership in outreach activities
  8. The candidate should have a strong commitment for teaching excellence and student advising.
  9. The candidate must have a strong record of research capabilities supported by an extensive list of publications.
  10. Advanced interpersonal verbal and written communications skills.
  11. Experience in strategic planning, academic program development.
  12. Competence in IT skills.
