Vice Chancellor’s Profile


Fouad B. Chedid was born in Lebanon on February 12, 1962. He graduated from the Lebanese University with B.S. in Physics in 1982. In 1984, he traveled to the United States of America, where he attended the University of California at Riverside and graduated with M.S. in Computer Science in June 1987. He then attended Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and graduated with Ph.D. in Computer Science in August 1990.

In August 1990, Prof. Chedid traveled to Japan to join the faculty of Temple University (Tokyo Campus), where he spent the next six years. In 1996, he returned to Lebanon to join Notre Dame University (NDU) as Associate Professor of Computer Science, where he spent the next 15 years. During his tenure at NDU, he chaired the computer science department of NDU’s main campus for six years and the sciences division of NDU’s Shouf Campus for eight years. He was promoted to Full Professor in 2003.

In 2011, Prof. Chedid traveled to Oman to serve as Dean of Arts and Applied Sciences at Dhofar University in Salalah, where he spent the next three years. He returned to Lebanon in 2014, where he spent the next two years at the Middle East Airlines as Head of Human Resources, he then returned back to Oman  in 2016 as Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at A’Sharqiyah University (ASU). Since April 2019, he has been serving as Vice Chancellor of ASU.

Prof. Chedid’s research interests are in parallel and distributed computing and algorithmic information theory. He has published 11 books and monographs, and numerous refereed journal and conference papers.
